Memphis, Tennessee based International Paper has announced it will close its Carrollton South packaging facility in Texas by the end of the third quarter of 2026. The decision is part of the company’s ongoing work to align its manufacturing footprint with customer demand and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of its North America packaging business.
“Decisions that affect our people and our communities are never made lightly. We’re committed to supporting our Carrollton South team members throughout this transition,” said Keith Townsend, Group Vice President, North America Packaging East, International Paper. “Customers will be serviced at other International Paper facilities in the region.”
According to a report on Packaging Dive, nearly all of the 45 hourly and 19 salaried employees will be affected, and they’re eligible to apply for posted jobs at another IP facilities, said Amy Simpson, IP’s head of communications for North America.
Customers will be serviced by other IP facilities in the region, according to a news release. IP has another box plant about 2.5 miles away that produces similar products to the South Carrollton site. It also has a recycling center about 1.5 miles away. The South Carrollton box plant closure will not affect the recycling center, Simpson said.
In another announcement, IP shared that Katherine Collins and Lori J. Ryerkerk have been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors, effective October 1, 2026.
Collins is an investment leader with more than three decades of experience in asset management, sustainable investing, research leadership and nonprofit governance.
Ryerkerk is an executive and board leader with more than four decades of experience across the global energy, chemicals and specialty materials sectors. She most recently served as Chairman, President and CEO of Celanese Corporation.
IP CEO and Chairman of the Board Andy Silvernail said, “Lori and Katherine each bring exceptional leadership experience and a proven ability to help guide organizations through complexity and change. Lori brings deep operational expertise and public company leadership experience, while Katherine brings a distinguished investment background and thoughtful governance perspective. The strategic insight and experience they each offer will strengthen our Board and support the company’s continued transformation.”
