Biddeford, Maine based Volk Packaging Corporation, a third-generation family owned and operated corrugated sheet plant, announced two major investments in equipment from Haire Group that have significantly improved their capacity and capabilities.
First is an Apstar HG2 Flexo Folder Gluer 47” x 100” with a Duel Servo Slotter, Die-Cut Station, Scrap Master and Dwell.
Second is a 66” x 110” Apstar HG2 1628 5-color Rotary Die-Cutter with Dwells. It will have three bottom print sections and two top print sections allowing Volk Packaging to run boxes with inside print in a single pass. The Flexo Folder Gluer will be installed this fall and the Rotary Die-Cutter is set for an early winter 2024 installation.
“I worked along with Derek Volk and his exceptional team to collectively identify the best machinery solutions for Volk’s rapidly growing business,” said Haire Group’s Tim Wilson, Director, National Accounts. “Haire Group’s Apstar line proved to be the best investment. As such, Volk Packaging is excited to announce that they will be installing two new, state-of-the-art Apstar machines. Haire Group and Volk Packaging have natural synergy through their shared focus on customer support. With the installation of the two new Apstars, Volk Packaging will be able to continue their nearly 60-year tradition of providing the best service in New England to their 1,000 plus customers.”
With the purchase of two of Haire Group’s Apstars, Volk Packaging CEO Derek Volk said that they will have the most impressive and versatile machine centers on the East Coast.
“Cutting-edge machinery, fantastic customer service, and a commitment to customer success makes us who we are. The addition of these new machines will increase our capacity and further supports our commitment to customer success,” Volk said.
Volk Packaging will also be installing a high-speed production line utilizing equipment from WSA, Ringwood Ducker, AG Stacker, and Inspire Automation, that will include conveyors, transfer carts, robotics, bundlers, double-bundlers, unitizers, a bundle breaker, a stretch wrapper and more.
“We purchased a new flexo in 2019 but never imagined our business would grow by almost 50 percent between 2019 and 2023. We need more machinery to live out my grandfather’s mantra that ‘our customers are our bread and butter,’” Volk said. “It is critical that we acquire the firepower and capabilities to provide the exceptional service that our customers have become accustomed to.”
