DS Smith is allocating funds for new machinery at its Danish plant. The investment is directed at installing an advanced rotary die-cutting line for flexographic printing at its facility in Grenaa, Denmark.
The strategic move primarily finances the addition of five printing units and a specific rotary die cutter model. The equipment incorporates servo-driven technology, vacuum sheet transport, and automatic register control.
These features are anticipated to enhance production accuracy, accelerate changeover speed, and ensure mechanical stability under continuous operation. The machinery is also expected to enable the creation of complex die cuts with high precision and reduced material waste.
This upgrade is projected to increase the site’s annual production capacity by a significant volume of corrugated board. The facility currently serves customers in sectors including food, beverage, and e-commerce. Company objectives for the investment include strengthening supply chain resilience by identifying potential production challenges earlier.
The increased capacity is also intended to shorten delivery times and improve stability for clients. DS Smith aims to provide packaging solutions, particularly for customers with requirements for automated packing and logistics, thereby boosting its competitive position in Northern Europe.
In a related development, DS Smith plans to upgrade a separate packaging facility in Bredasten, Sweden. This project involves an expansion of the building’s footprint and the relocation of warehouse services from Malmo to Bredasten. The transition is scheduled to occur in phases, with completion expected by June 2027.
Engaging Partners
The goal is to strengthen internal processes and operations while enhancing customer service and product innovation.
Separately, DS Smith has engaged in a partnership with Apilab to monitor environmental impacts at its French packaging sites. The method involves releasing bees to forage within a specific radius and analyzing collected samples to assess local ecosystem health, supporting the company’s environmental, social, and governance reporting.
