Dallas, Texas based McKinley Packaging Company, a subsidiary of Bio Pappel of Mexico City, has officially opened a new 500,000-square-foot corrugated box manufacturing plant in Lancaster, Texas that is expected to create 125 jobs at full capacity, according to news reports.

The Lancaster site was selected as part of Bio Pappel’s efforts to expand into the US market. McKinley Packaging has represented the company’s strategic growth with now seven plants, two paper mills, and five recycling centers across the US. 

Global Site Location Industries, a Dallas-based consultant and economic development agency, assisting in selecting Lancaster, one of the Dallas-Fort Worth Area’s strongest industrial markets.

The site selection process began in 2020 with locations in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas being evaluated for business friendliness, proximity to key markets and access to a skilled workforce. Construction started in 2022. McKinley Packaging is aiming for zero-discharge water operations upon reaching capacity.

“GSLI’s process provided us with the opportunity to truly evaluate multiple markets that had the potential to support our company strategies, helping us identify the right location first,” Garcia adds.

“In addition, GSLI was valuable in helping us review incentive packages and navigating the negotiation process. The team providing insight on how different incentives compared across different communities as we determined location.”

Bio Pappel, one of the largest manufacturers of paper and paper products in Mexico and Latin America, has two divisions in the US: McKinley Paper and McKinley Packaging, which has a combined box cut-up capacity of 500,000 tons/year. McKinley Packaging operates a sheet plant in Cerritos, California; as well as super plants with full-line corrugators and state-of-the-art machinery in Santa Fe Springs, California; Covington, Georgia, which opened in 2015; Lebanon, Indiana, which opened in 2019; along with its headquarters offices in Dallas, Texas.

McKinley Paper has three paper-producing facilities: a New Mexico Mill, which produces 100 percent recycled paper; a Washington Mill in Port Angeles, Washington;  and a Wisconsin Mill. These facilities have a combined capacity of approximately 1 million tons/year.

Additionally, McKinley Packaging operates five recycling centers throughout the United States.
