Krefeld, Germany Baumer hhs has announced that the CorrBox Solution comes with a new option, available since June 2024, that takes measuring slot depth in box production on flexo folder gluers to a new level. The new slot option has two advantages: it is easy to operate and works with a high-performance SCX 1000 contrast sensor designed to deliver reliable results even at maximum machine speeds.
“The dimensional stability of the slots is one of the main factors determining the functionality of a folding box,” says Marcell van Meegen, head of Business Development, Baumer hhs. “If the slot depth is not die-cut correctly, packaging produced on a flexo folder gluer could easily become unusable. If the slots are not deep enough, the flaps cannot be folded correctly, which can lead to problems when the boxes are automatically erected. If the slots are too deep, holes can form at the corners of the boxes, compromising protection of the goods packed inside or making the boxes unstable. If the geometry and the position of the slots are not right, the boxes may not close properly or opposing flap edges may be out of line.”
The new SCX 1000 contrast sensor is equipped with a light source and has camera-like properties. The new slot option is also fully integrated in the Xtend3 controller so it can be operated from the intuitive user interface. Operators have the option of manually entering different slot lengths for the bottom and top flaps of boxes in production. Tolerances that determine when deviations should be rated as errors can be entered manually, helping enhance efficiency and sustainability. The new slot option also has a function for separately activating or deactivating control of the bottom and top flaps. “Our new slot option offers all these advantages, giving box manufacturers the flexibility they need to meet a wide range of quality demands imposed on corrugated packaging,” says van Meegen.
