Elkhart, Indiana Welch Packaging announced it has joined forces with Capitol City Container Corp in Indianapolis (Cap City Container). This relationship brings together two multi-generational, family-owned companies in the corrugated packaging industry to strengthen their position in the Midwest region.

Cap City Container is known for providing high quality packaging solutions and corrugated boxes in Central Indiana. Owners Rich Purcell, Mike Purcell, and Josh Bryant have led the business for many years, bringing decades of experience to the Welch roster.

In addition to a highly experienced team, Cap City Container brings some state-of-the-art equipment, a new product niche, and a lot of family talent to Welch Packaging.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cap City Container to the Welch Packaging family,” said Scott Welch, President and CEO, Welch Packaging.

“I have known and respected the Purcells for many years. It will be nice to work together toward shared success rather than compete against one another.”

In 2023, Welch Packaging launched a corrugator operation in Indianapolis, known as IndyCorr. Cap City Container will be positioned to leverage supply chain support from IndyCorr, sourcing their corrugated board internally.

“Welch Packaging brings a valuable network of support to Cap City Container,” adds Rich Purcell.

“I am excited for the wealth of resources and experience this merger brings together and how it will translate into new opportunities for our customers.”

Specific terms of this agreement were not disclosed.

Since 1974, Cap City Container has been providing businesses in Indianapolis and the central Indiana area with custom corrugated box solutions. Founded in 1985, Welch Packaging is a multi-generational family-owned and led business. The company operates a network of corrugated sheet plants supported by its own sheet feeder system. Welch has a history of integrating other corrugated sheet plants while preserving their legacy. For more information, visit welchpkg.com or capcitycontainer.com.
